While the math concepts related to Pi are all middle school standards, Pi Day is as good an excuse as any to get in the kitchen with your child and get baking! The opportunities for authentic math discussions are endless in the kitchen, regardless of your child's age. Need 3/4 of a cup of sugar? Talk about how you could use the 1/4 cup 3 times, or the half cup and a quarter cup. How long does your pie need to bake? What time will it be when it comes out of the oven? Look at the slice I just made! How many slices that big do you think I can make? So many opportunities, and best of all, such quality time together!
